Thing 3: Your Professional Brand
LinkedIn is a site that has huge potential for professionals of pretty much any career. I am still in the process of familiarising myself with the layout and am learning as I go. My profile could possibly still do with improving and hopefully I'll optimise it as I become more comfortable with the layout. I also work occasionally as a Sound Engineer. In terms of a "brand" having both Sound Engineer and Library Assistant may not be the clearest. A brand needs to be simple, recognisable, instantly represent something and, well, sell-able. I'm not sure if I've done the right thing. However with libraries publishing so much content online the addition of sound engineering skills fused with graphic design could prove to be a valuable asset. When it comes to online (or otherwise) instructional videos getting the sound right is a very important and sometimes overlooked aspect. Even a very simple video would benefit with precise, clear audio recorded to a professional standard. That's my justification for leaving Sound Engineering in ;-) This is a blog post so childish emoticons are appropriate :-) https://ie.linkedin.com/in/colmpriestley Colm Priestley

When I was a child both my parents worked in libraries. They met each other in one actually but that's their story to tell! My mam worked in DCU Library and my dad in Roselawn. We would regularly visit Roselawn and also attend the mini-events they ran. A good number of the kids on our road would attend the story telling days in Roselawn. Actually somewhere buried in my parents house there are photos of all of them with over the top expressions as the various tales unfolded. Dad would later be the County Librarian for Dublin South. My parents no longer work in libraries, dad left Dublin South about 15 years ago and mam finished in DCU about 20 years ago. Libraries played an integral role in my childhood. It's either through that or a lack of imagination that I've "carried on the torch" so to speak. I'm now into my 12th year as a Library Assistant. I've worked in DCU, Stewart's Hospital and St. Patrick's College.
Setting up a blog to run in conjunction with the Rudaí 23 course. Let's see how this goes...
